About Our Tent
On Sunday, February 11, 2007, the Sarah Emma Edmonds Detached Tent #4 of Houston, Texas was chartered during the reenactment of the Battle of El Camino Real in Madisonville, Texas. National President Patricia Mullenix, dressed in period clothing, conducted the Chartering Ceremony and the Installation of Officers amid the boom and rattling of gunfire taking place on a field near her sutlers tent, "The Ladies Parlor", thus creating a first time a DUVCW Tent made its start in a tent during a civil war reenactment. The six inductees present, flinched from time to time as the battle drew closer to the tents.
Prior to the chartering ceremony, a meeting was held on January 27, 2007 on a cold and rainy day at the Tracy Gee Community Center in Houston, Texas, to lay the foundations for the first Houston Tent. The 5 sisters who were present that day were, Susan Salm, Martha Class, Sheryl Parker, June Anderson Bates, and Patricia Wood
March 10, 2007, was the closing of our Charter with a membership of nineteen Charter members, nine of whom were at the meeting on March 10.
